Potential Zirkzee return to Bayern off the table

Italian transfer experts Fabrizio Romano and Matteo Moretto report that former FC Bayern München prospect Joshua Zirkzee is most likely to sign with AC Milan.

The prospect of reuniting Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee with newly appointed FC Bayern München head-coach Vincent Kompany now appears to be less likely, according to Italian transfer experts Fabrizio Romano and Matteo Moretto. The Italian duo report that Serie A giants AC Milan have contacted Zirkzee’s current club of FC Bologna, announcing their intent to pull a €40 million release clause in the 23-year-old’s contract. Romano and Moretto further note that Zirkzee is amenable to remaining in the Italian league.

The complex set of clauses built into Zirkzee’s sale to Bologna leave German giants FC Bayern with refusal rights, but the record champs can still cash in on a re-sale clause built into the deal. It would make no sense for Max Eberl and the FCB administrative team to try and bring Zirkzee back to a league the Dutch youth international remains uninterested in joining when they can pocket potentially €10-20 million by simply allowing the player to move to Milan. Zirkzee maintains an estimated market worth of some €50 million.
