Germany’s preeminent footballing publication reports that FSV Mainz 05 are looking at bringing in former Bo Henriksen protégée Cheick Condé to fill the midfield gap opened opened up by Leandro Barreiro’s departure. As a result, former German youth international Tom Krauß may be placed on the market.

Germany’s Kicker Magazine reports that FSV Mainz 05 have a replacement for the departed Leandro Barreiro in mind. According to the trade journal, the Rheinhessen are considering bringing in Guinean international Cheick Condé in to serve alongside Nadiem Amiri on the midfield axis. Condé thrived under current FSV head-coach Bo Henriksen at his previous station of FC Zurich.

The odd-man-out may very well be former German youth international Tom Krauß. The 22-year-old was unable to nail down a starting role for the Pfälzer this season under trainers Bo Svensson and Jan Siwert. Krauß made just one start under Henriksen’s aegis. The former German youth international has seen his estimated market worth decline from €7 million last summer to €4.5 million in the latest transfermarkt update.

Once a highly sought-after commodity, there would presumably be many German top tier suitors for Krauß. The midfielder’s signing from RB Leipzig last summer was considered something of a coup for the Carnival club, but FSV sporting director Martin Schmidt recently publicly stated that Krauß “doesn’t have the same profile as Barreiro.”
