Cape Breton Capers teams prepare for 2024-25 seasons with recent recruits

SYDNEY – The Cape Breton Capers athletic teams’ preparation for the 2024-25 Atlantic University Sport seasons are well underway with several recruits being announced.

The women’s basketball team has announced five recruits for the upcoming season since January including Lily François, Alicia Bowering, Nevaeh O’Connell, Yuna Soma and Memorial Marauders standout Cameron Clarke of North Sydney.

Clarke is a five-foot-11 forward and will be enrolled in the bachelor of business administration, while François is a five-foot-eight shooting guard from Cole Harbour.

Bowering is a five-foot-10 guard from Orangeville, Ont., while O’Connell is a five-foot-three guard from Beechville, N.S. Soma is a five-foot-seven guard from Tokyo, Japan.

Meanwhile, the women’s soccer team has added four players to its roster including Tara Isama, Louise Porter, Audrey Roy and Rebecca LeBlanc of Coxheath.

LeBlanc is a defender who has experience playing in U Sports with Ottawa, Acadia and New Brunswick, while Isama is a goalkeeper from Dundalk, Ont.

Porter is a defender and is from Glasgow, Scotland while Roy is a midfield/winger from Bathurst, N.B.

The men’s soccer team has also announced two recruits including Nickolas Shifrin and Jack Turpin.

Shifrin is a midfielder from Netanya, Israel, while Turpin is a central defender from Paradise, N.L.

No recruits were announced publicly by the men’s basketball team at publication time. 

The Capers soccer teams will begin their 2024 season on Aug. 30 in Fredericton against the New Brunswick Reds. Meanwhile, the university’s basketball teams will start the 2024-25 season on Nov. 1-2 when they host New Brunswick.
